Regina has been in public accounting since 1986 when she graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration (emphasis in Accounting) and began working at a Big Eight firm in San Francisco. She started in the audit department which provided a good base of understanding financial statements of businesses big and small.

She transferred to the tax department in 1988. She quickly passed the CPA exam and was certified in 1988.She also began the Masters of Science in Taxation program at Golden Gate University in San Francisco and completed that rigorous program in 1991.
